Like the living room, the den has a vaulted ceiling, as well as four windows facing west toward the front yard and the street. There is a bar to my left, and a green leather couch that still smells of smoke from when Howard accidentally set it on fire. I walk out the front door and around through the carport into the screened-in porch. It’s slanted so that the room narrows on the south side of the house.
Our largest meetings & events space, The Ballroom, is perfect for any gathering with up to 1,000 people. The Guest House also includes a 464-seat theater for presentations or ceremonies. Lisa Marie Presley passed away on Jan. 12 at 54, hours after being hospitalized following an apparent cardiac arrest. She was the only daughter of the late music legend Elvis Presley and Priscilla Presley. The last member of the Presley family to occupy Graceland mansion was Elvis’ aunt Delta, who died in 1993.
Faced with having to sell Graceland, Priscilla examined other famous houses/museums, and hired a CEO, Jack Soden, to turn Graceland into a moneymaker. Priscilla's gamble paid off; after only a month of opening Graceland's doors the estate made back all the money it had invested. Priscilla Presley became the chairwoman and president of Elvis Presley Enterprises, or EPE, stating at that time she would do so until Lisa Marie reached 21 years of age.
About half of the 23 rooms in the house are off-limits to visitors, including the entire second floor — where the star's master suite is located. Elvis probably added the pool right when they bought the house, since it was essentially if not totally complete by the time of photographer Al Wertheimer’s visit to 1034 on July 4, 1956. Leaving Jeanne and the rest of the family to tend to Carol, I peek into the narrow tiled bathroom and see that to the right is the front bedroom where Howard and Ruth sleep, along with Carol and baby Elaine. A bright room with pink floral wallpaper, it has two closets and three windows looking out onto the front and side yards. Exiting this bedroom, I walk back to the main hall and head down to the right. All of the bedrooms are on the right, or south, side of the house, including the front bedroom I just left.
Transfer to a small bowl and stir in 2 tablespoons of parsley and ¼ teaspoon each salt and black pepper; set aside. Meanwhile, in a large saucepan, whisk 1¾ cups water, the egg yolks, and the cornstarch until smooth. Set the pan over medium-low heat and cook, whisking constantly, until the mixture comes to a gentle simmer and is airy and thickened, 5 to 7 minutes; use a silicone spatula to occasionally get into the corners of the pan. From the bustling streets of Rome to the canals of Venice to the sun-drenched coasts of Sicily and Calabria, these dishes bring the flavors of Italy to your kitchen.

In the same skillet set over medium-high, heat the remaining 1 tablespoon oil until it shimmers. Add the garlic, shallot, and pepper flakes, then cook, stirring constantly, until the garlic is light golden brown, about 30 seconds. Add the wine and cook, stirring, until the liquid has almost evaporated, 30 to 60 seconds. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the mixture is slightly thickened, 6 to 7 minutes. In a 12-inch nonstick skillet set over medium-high heat, heat 2 tablespoons of oil until it shimmers. Add the panko and cook, stirring often, until golden brown, about 2 minutes.
In a 10-inch skillet set over medium heat, cook the pancetta, stirring, until crisp, about 5 minutes. Measure out and reserve 3 tablespoons of the rendered fat; if needed, supplement with olive oil. In the same skillet set over medium-high heat, warm 1 tablespoon of the oil until it shimmers. Add half the shrimp in an even layer and cook without disturbing until golden brown on the bottoms, 1 to 2 minutes; transfer to a large plate. Repeat with another 1 tablespoon oil and the remaining shrimp; set the shrimp aside. Add the shrimp and accumulated juices to the pan, along with the remaining 6 tablespoons parsley.

Let stand, tossing the pasta two or three times, until most of the liquid has been absorbed, about 3 minutes. If needed, toss in up to 2 tablespoons reserved pasta water to adjust the consistency. Transfer to a warmed serving bowl and serve, passing more pecorino and pepper on the side.
From the coast of Veneto, Italy, gamberi alla busara is a dish of whole shell-on prawns in a garlicky tomato sauce spiked with white wine. For this weeknight version, we use shelled shrimp, but we prefer them jumbo-size (21 to 25 shrimp per pound) so the dish has heft and substance. It’s true that the 21-bedroom property appeals to almost any hobby or interest. For the automotive enthusiast there’s a 30-car garage on the subterranean level, complete with two turntables for showcasing your most bragworthy marques. If you’re more of the fitness type, the third floor has its own gym and lap pool, plus a four-lane bowling alley, a hair salon and juice bar (great for post-workout smoothies and the like). Also on this level is the movie theater for cinephiles, the 10,000-bottle wine cellar for vino enthusiasts and the cigar lounge for those who’d rather just unwind with a stogie.

The smokiness of the bacon will overwhelm the cleaner flavors of the egg-based sauce. Unfortunately, the One’s new owner— Richard Saghian, founder and CEO of apparel company Fashion Nova—will have to wait just a little longer to find that out firsthand. It’s expected to take several more months of construction and somewhere around $20 million to finish the home and then obtain a certificate of occupancy. While that price tag may sound outlandish, there’s no denying the home’s bevy of amenities make it unique, even among other jaw-dropping estates in Los Angeles. When asked if the band might be thinking about retiring, Skjerseth said he doubts that will happen.

In 2023, Marlin and Frantz will celebrate the release of Watchhouse (Duo) with a short run of shows that will feature just the two of them, harkening back to their earliest days of performing. Still, every night, Andrew especially was paid to relive a lifetime of grievances and griefs onstage. After 2019’s Tides of a Teardrop, a tender accounting of his mother’s early death, the process became evermore arduous, even exhausting.

Harris has emerged as a top surrogate for the president ahead of the 2024 general election, specifically targeting black groups in a number of battleground states. According to Apple maps, the headquarters, which is located at 900 Franklin Avenue, is about a ten-minute walk from Magnolia Market, aka the Silos. Our beautiful terrazzo bar where your coffee will arrive, before you head back to the daily grind. State of the brewing tech including a custom brewbar, 3Temp single serve doser and ModBar.
Grilling the lemons before juicing them mellows their sharpness and acidity, adding a subtle sweetness to the sauce. Our version is made with grated zest in the marinade; we then add the juice to finish the sauce just before serving. By the time 2019 came to its fitful end, Andrew Marlin knew he was tired of touring. He was grateful, of course, for the ascendancy of Mandolin Orange, the duo he’d cofounded in North Carolina with fiddler Emily Frantz exactly a decade earlier. With time, they had become new flagbearers of the contemporary folk world, sweetly singing soft songs about the hardest parts of our lives, both as people and as a people.
For our spaghetti carbonara, we learned to lighten up the Roman classic by using whisked egg yolks to create an airy foam that melds with pecorino Romano cheese to create a creamy sauce. Next, our quick-yet-elegant skillet dish captures the essence of the Veneto region with succulent shrimp and a garlicky tomato sauce, finished with a sprinkling of toasted bread crumbs. Finally, we dress chicken in bright Mediterranean flavors with an herby, citrusy sauce made from lemons caramelized on the grill. While the chicken rests, grill the lemon halves cut side down on the hot side of the grate until grill-marked, 2 to 3 minutes. Squeeze 2½ tablespoons juice from 1 or 2 of the grilled lemon halves, then stir the juice along with the parsley into the reserved garlic-lemon oil to make the salmoriglio.
Starting over a decade ago playing coffee shops and local restaurants around North Carolina, Watchhouse is a grassroots success story that’s been driven by Marlin’s poignant songwriting. They’ve sold out iconic venues (Red Rocks, Ryman Auditorium) and attract hundreds of millions of streams while producing exploratory music that “redefines roots music for a younger generation” (Washington Post). Starting over a decade ago playing coffee shops and local restaurants around North Carolina, Watchhouse is a grassroots success story that's been driven by Marlin's poignant songwriting.
Their rise—particularly crowds that grew first to fill small dives, then the Ryman, then amphitheaters the size of Red Rocks—humbled Emily and Andrew, who became parents to Ruby late in 2018. Using tongs, reposition the chicken so that the pieces farthest from the fire are now closest; keep the chicken skin side up. Re-cover and continue to cook until the thickest part of the breast, if using, reaches 160 degrees or the thickest parts of the thighs and drumsticks, if using, reach 175 degrees, another 5 to 10 minutes. For a gas grill, turn all burners to high and heat, covered, for 15 minutes, then clean and oil the cooking grate; leave the primary burner on high and turn the remaining burner(s) to low. Stir the pasta and 1 tablespoon salt into the boiling water and cook until al dente. Reserve about ½ cup of the cooking water, then drain the pasta very well.

The tour then heads to California beginning in Saratoga on August 5 followed by engagements in Rohnert Park (August 6) and Los Angeles (August 7). Next, American Acoustic hops over to the Northeast with a concert in New Haven, Connecticut on August 18 before wrapping up in Manchester Vermont on August 20. Five robbers break into an actress' house but a bloody encounter with the husband leaves two robbers alive.
But during a vibrant two-hour show, the Stones played with the energy of band that was on tour for the first time. While the Gaineses initially thought they would turn the old Grand Karem Shrine Building into their headquarters, that historic structure is now their Hotel 1928, so the growing brand needed somewhere to work out of. Well, in 2021, according to KCEN-TV, the designer duo purchased the old Waco Tribune-Herald building that was constructed in 1950 and decided to renovate it to create their perfect HQ. It took them a while, but in 2023, the Gaineses were finally able to perform a ribbon cutting ceremony in front of the 110,000-square-foot building.
The coffee bar sits at the bottom of a three-story atrium that was once the press room, so it was aptly named The Press Room, and it's open for both employees and guests, according to the Waco Tribune-Herald. Watchhouse is currently touring across 1 country and has 11 upcoming concerts. Using tongs, flip the chicken skin side down onto the hot side of the grill. Cook until the skin is lightly browned and crisp, 1 to 2 minutes, moving the chicken as needed to avoid flare-ups.
A set of infinity pools create a sort of moat that surrounds the main home, further adding to the “castle on a hill” vibe. But it’s just one of many reasons you’ll want to spend time outdoors here. The 10,000-square-foot roof deck, for instance, has spectacular views of the city—the mansion’s elevator stops here, too, so you won’t have to hoof it up the stairs. As someone who has been inside the Magnolia headquarters when I went to Waco to stay in Hotel 1928, I can confirm that there is a court that can be used for a multitude of sports purposes inside the building. Magnolia's reported $21 million renovation also included putting in a golf simulator, a coffee bar, a test kitchen for developing recipes for Joanna's cookbooks, and plenty of places to lounge about.
